Integrated Project Management (IPM) Company, Inc., is a project management consulting firm that has been operating since 1988. The company has over 30 years of experience helping clients across multiple industries plan and execute major programs and projects. An internal survey was conducted of the company’s most experienced and tenured members (n=65) to mine the participants’ collective wisdom with respect to which aspects of organizational culture are perceived to relate most strongly to successful project management, based on experience with both internal and client projects. Much has been written and shared in the literature about how organizational culture impacts overall organizational performance. Much less has been written about how organizational culture relates specifically to an organization’s ability to plan and execute major programs and projects. This presentation will attempt to add to the knowledge base in this area. It will provide an overview of the cultural framework and attributes that served as the basis for the survey, highlight the attributes with the strongest perceived relationship to successful program and project management, and offer some recommendations for Project Managers to navigate cultures that may be lacking in the key attributes.
